Based on the above statistics, wind power is a major source of renewable energy in India. However, there has been a major reduction in new wind power installations in 2013-14 due to the removal of the accelerated depreciation benefit. Wind power in India is still not cost competitive compared to coal powered thermal power plants, and relies heavily on government subsidies to attract investments.
